About this work
A mounted officer in a dark dress uniform hung with medals rides a white horse along a red brick wall, passing a row of veterans in green tunics standing rigidly at attention with rifles. Behind them a huge blue-toned double image of an elderly face looms translucently over the scene, as if memory is superimposed on the parade.
The palette contrasts cool blue background tones with warm reds of the brick and medal ribbons, while the horse's white coat and rider's dark uniform anchor the center. Brushwork is loose and thickly applied in short strokes, giving the still, formal parade scene a solemn, commemorative weight.
