About this work
A bearded elder in a red cloak lined with gold brocade leans over a kneeling figure whose bare back is exposed above a red garment bunched at the waist. One hand rests on the kneeling figure's neck while the other points toward a small pale animal in a sunlit field beyond. Heavy folded drapery fills the dark upper background.
The palette is dominated by saturated reds and ochres against near-black shadow, with warm daylight illuminating the distant field.
