About this work
A dense, sunburst-like design radiates from a bearded face wearing round glasses at the center, layered with a second bearded profile, a bird or animal skull, a bell, an eye and an ear rendered in obsessive linear detail. Triangular shafts of blank white cut through the composition, and crowded into the corners and edges are numerous distorted, straining nude and semi-clothed figures, hands, and faces caught in grief or pain.
Executed entirely in black and white, the etching relies on dense, fine hatching and stippling to build volume and texture across every surface. The radiating white triangles create a strong, almost hypnotic optical rhythm against the crowded blackwork, and the accumulation of grotesque, overlapping detail produces an intense, nightmarish density.
