About this work

A young woman with long dark hair, wearing a pale gown and a fur-trimmed vest, kneels on the forest floor beside a large grey wolf standing close at her shoulder. Both figures face the viewer directly amid tall trees, ferns and fallen branches, with a hazy, sunlit clearing visible beyond the trunks. Jeweled rings and bracelets catch soft light on her hand resting near the wolf's flank.

Rendered in highly finished, photographic realism, the wolf's fur and the woman's skin and hair are built up in fine, blended layers of grey, cream and warm brown. Diffused daylight filters through the canopy, softening shadows and giving the scene an atmospheric, storybook hush. The quiet closeness between woman and animal lends the image a mysterious, fable-like calm.
