About this work
White lilies spill from a ceramic pitcher beside a wide bowl holding a small cluster of violet flowers, all set before a round bronze or copper plate tilted against the wall. A weathered white figurine stands to the right, a single dark plum or fig rests on the folded white tablecloth in front, and a dim framed picture hangs above.
The palette stays close in value, mostly cream, ivory and warm gold with only the violets offering a note of cool purple. Broad, soft strokes blur edges between objects and cloth, and diffuse light falls evenly across the arrangement, giving the still life a quiet, muted, almost monochrome calm.
