“Тight festivities”

A close-knit group of pale, golden-robed figures stands and embraces atop a mound of rocks at the water's edge, arms lifted and heads inclined toward one another. A small winged figure crowns the group, holding aloft a glowing lantern. To the left a woman in a dark patterned coat and headscarf rides an antique high-wheel bicycle, trailing a long line; to the right two men in loose white shirts stand among boulders holding slender rods that stretch toward the sea.

The scene is rendered in cool turquoise and teal, broken by the warm ivory, gold and ochre of the robes and skin, giving the huddled figures an inner glow against the hazy sky and water. Brushwork is soft and blended, faces simplified into smooth, mask-like forms. The overall effect is hushed and mysterious, as though the group and its odd companions belong to a half-remembered dream.
