About this work
A dim stairwell landing is closed off by a tall wrought-iron gate with a scrolling openwork pattern, its lock visible at the center. Above the gate a small green sign reading ВЫХОД (exit) is mounted on the peeling, two-tone wall, while pipes run along the ceiling and a dark wooden door frame is glimpsed at the right edge.
The palette is restricted to worn ochres, olive-greens and near-black shadow, with only the sign's bright green offering a note of color. Thick, chalky paint describes flaking plaster and rusted metal, and the low, uneven light gives the passage a closed-in, somewhat melancholic hush despite the sign's promise of an exit.
