About this work
A rutted dirt track cuts through dry golden grass and dark earth, winding over the crest of a low hill before disappearing into misty distance. A cluster of weathered wooden utility poles, several leaning at odd angles and strung with sagging wire, stands beside the road, with a single small pole visible far along the path.
Muted browns, ochres, and charcoal greys dominate the palette, set beneath an enormous sky of streaked, wind-blown clouds rendered in soft grey washes. The low horizon and looming clouds dwarf the small road and poles, while the textured, dry grass is built up with short vertical strokes, giving the whole scene a bleak, windswept solitude.
