About this work

A vertical assemblage of crumpled gold and white textured panels is arranged like an altar or shrine. At its center a black crown of thorns drips red paint like blood, above a bronze plaque inscribed "SPQR," a small metal chalice, and a bundle of white cloth cradling dark red roses set on deep teal drapery at the base.

Built from richly textured, crumpled gold-leaf and whitened surfaces alongside heavy black and red accents, the work has a sculptural, relief-like presence rather than flat painting. The interplay of precious gold, wounding thorns, and blood-red roses gives it a solemn, ritualistic, dramatically charged feeling.
