About this work
A dense black scribbled mass fills the upper half of the sheet, punctuated by a large photograph of an open, laughing or screaming mouth. Small collaged photographs of isolated faces, of different ages and skin tones, float freely across the pale ground, alongside a torn photo of a child's patterned dress at lower left. Green scribbles, red threads and strips of tape cross the lower half.
Built up in dry pencil, ink and cut paper, the piece favors a raw, unfinished surface: nervous overlapping lines in black, green and red create a churning, chaotic texture around the calmer collaged photographs. The scattered faces read like a swarm of disembodied onlookers, giving the drawing an unsettling, dreamlike tension.
