About this work

A solitary figure sits with head bowed, auburn hair catching a warm accent against an otherwise cool, silvery field. The torso is loosely blocked in pale flesh tones, one arm reaching toward the lap, while the lower body dissolves into the same broken brushwork as the background. No setting or props are distinguishable; the figure floats in an undefined space.

Built with thick, vertical strokes of a palette knife in slate blue, grey and cream, the canvas reads almost as pure texture, the figure barely separated from its ground by value rather than outline. Light is diffuse and even, avoiding cast shadow, giving the image a hushed, contemplative mood closer to a fading memory than a posed study.
