About this work
A nude figure stands facing forward, both hands raised to press against the face in a gesture of anguish or exhaustion. Above the head, dense dark scribbling suggests wild hair or shadow, while parallel vertical hatched lines to the right evoke bars, reeds, or drapery hemming the figure in on one side.
The body itself is drawn with a single continuous contour left largely unshaded, so the pale, unbroken silhouette stands out sharply against the surrounding dark marks. The contrast between the bare, still body and the agitated marks around it gives the image a quiet, melancholic weight.
