About this work
A small child in a hooded coat and knitted hat stands alone on wet sand at low tide, gazing up at a flock of white seagulls scattering into flight above the shore. Shallow tide pools, driftwood, and a distant tree-lined bank stretch across the middle ground toward open water.
Cool blues and ochres dominate the palette, the wet sand and pools rendered in loose, fluid strokes that echo the pale sky. The gulls are built up with thick, quick dabs of white impasto against softer background washes, giving the scene a breezy, wistful, open-air atmosphere.
