About this work
Slender pines and a heavier bough at right frame a broad view down a forested slope toward a wide valley, where a violet mountain ridge rises under a warm, pale sky. Small rooftops of a distant settlement are just visible where the green valley floor meets the base of the mountains, with tall grasses in the foreground.
Warm ochre and gold light on the grasses contrasts with the cooler violet-blue of the distant ridge, built with broad, confident strokes and visible brush texture throughout. The layering of near, dark green trees against the softly glowing evening sky and mountains gives the view a spacious, tranquil evening feel.
