About this work

A footed white bowl heaped with dark cherries stands at the center of a white tablecloth, surrounded by loose cherries scattered singly and in small clusters, their stems still attached. A stemmed glass holding clear liquid stands just behind the bowl, catching the light, while the folds of the cloth create soft shadowed hollows across the surface.

Painted with fine, controlled brushwork, the deep maroon and crimson cherries are modeled with warm reflected light and cool violet shadow against the pale, almost monochrome cloth. The glass is rendered with crisp, transparent highlights, and the overall effect is quiet and precise, a restrained study in tone rather than bold color.
