About this work

On a pale cloth-covered table, a footed white bowl heaped with mandarins stands next to a small white ceramic jug with a curved handle and an antique copper-based glass oil lamp. A loose red cloth spills across the surface behind them, with a single peeled mandarin segment and a whole fruit set apart to the left, all resting on a crumpled white napkin.

The composition is built on quiet neutrals — warm greys and beiges — set alight by the orange fruit and the deep crimson drapery, with the lamp's glass globe catching soft reflected highlights. Brushwork is smooth and controlled, describing form through gentle tonal transitions typical of academic still-life painting, giving the scene a calm, intimate warmth.
