Summer has flown by

A weathered plank door fills the frame, its blue-grey paint flaking away to bare wood and crossed by a diagonal brace fitted with a rusted iron latch and hasp. A swallow with a long forked tail glides past at eye level toward the right edge, while dry stalks of grass brush against the lower border of the composition.

Muted greys, dusty blues and ochre browns are built up with dry, textured brushwork that mimics cracked paint, wood grain and rust, while warm golden light rakes in from the left. The tight, close-up framing and the departing bird give the quiet, worn surface a wistful, end-of-season feel.
