About this work
Pale stone and tin roofs cluster in the lower half of the composition, stepping down a green hillside toward a wooden house with a covered gallery on the right. A single tree with golden-orange foliage rises at the center, set against layered blue-violet mountain ridges that fill the upper background beneath a pale sky.
Color is built from bold, unblended strokes of ultramarine, teal and ochre, applied with a loaded brush and visible palette-knife marks. Warm oranges and greens in the tree and terraces stand out sharply against the cool, receding blue of the mountains, creating strong depth through contrast rather than gradual tonal shift. The handling is quick and confident, giving the scene a bright, open-air freshness.
