About this work
A white ceramic bowl heaped with pears and lemons sits on a white cube-shaped stand at the center of the composition. To the left, more pears rest on a folded yellow cloth beside a tall green bottle, while at right a dark jug draped with white cloth stands beside a knife and a head of garlic on the tabletop.
Warm greys and browns fill the background, setting off the bowl's cool white and the citrus yellows and greens of the fruit. Confident, visible brushstrokes model each rounded form with firm highlights and soft shadows, and the balanced, classically arranged grouping gives the still life a calm, studious character.
