About this work
A worn brass mortar with its pestle standing upright sits at the center of a windowsill, flanked by a small half-filled glass jar and an antique flat iron with a twisted handle. A crumpled cloth spills over the ledge at the lower left, while behind the objects tall window panes, streaked and stained, admit a soft, diffuse light.
The palette stays close to muted browns, ochres, and dusty greens, with the window's grimy glass rendered in thick, scumbled strokes that catch traces of pink and gold. Light falls evenly across the worn metal surfaces, and the heavy, textured paint gives the humble objects a quiet, contemplative stillness.
