About this work
The view looks down and across a dense cluster of pitched and flat roofs, chimney stacks, and rows of small attic windows receding into the distance. A slender church spire rises above the rooftops on the right, while in the foreground a metal fire-escape ladder cuts diagonally across a shadowed roof edge.
Built up entirely from fine parallel and cross-hatched lines, the etching renders every tile, brick, and windowpane with meticulous, almost obsessive detail, leaving the sky as bare, lightly scratched paper. The tight, overlapping geometry of the roofline and the elevated viewpoint give the print a quiet, observational stillness.
