About this work
A nude male body is shown upside down and diagonally airborne, head and torso twisted toward the viewer while one arm and leg stretch taut toward the upper right corner, the other limbs trailing loosely below; the figure fills the canvas against an almost featureless void.
Deep black-brown shadow occupies the upper left, giving way to a warm, softly modeled ochre ground on the right that catches the light on the torso and limbs; smooth academic modeling of muscle and skin, controlled chiaroscuro, and the suspended, falling pose create a tense, dramatic charge.
