About this work
A hooded head fills the frame, weathered dark skin overlaid with a ceremonial diamond pattern in teal, gold and rust running from brow to chin. Pale eyes catch the light beneath the deep shadow of the hood, and parted lips reveal teeth. The rust-orange hood, edged with gold stitching, stands against a mottled ochre wall scrawled with loose, branch-like dark lines.
Ochre, rust and black dominate, broken by the cool teal of the facial markings, with light gathered tightly on the eyes and cheekbones while the hood falls into shadow. Layered brushwork over a visibly grained surface gives a scratched, textural finish, and the tight symmetrical crop produces a fixed, unsettling stare.
