About this work
Thick drifts of snow cover a country track bordered by bare birches and a row of tilted wooden utility poles strung with sagging wire; a small snow-mantled log cabin with a dark roof sits just off the path, and a thin dark strip of open water or shadow cuts across the foreground snow.
A muted palette of lilac-grey, white, and soft ochre is built up with thick, dragging strokes that leave visible ridges of paint mimicking crusted snow; the flat, diffused winter light and near-monochrome tonality create a hushed, motionless calm across the whole scene.
