About this work
Broken tesserae of blue, white, and grey form an arched niche framing a central figure with wind-blown red-orange hair and raised arms, evoking a dancer in motion. Below, two red-robed figures face each other on either side of an ornamental fan-like shape, their forms built from angular red and dark tile fragments set against the surrounding blue field.
Cool blues and whites dominate the surface, punctuated by hot reds and oranges at the center, giving the mosaic a fiery focal point. Irregular tesserae of glass, ceramic, porcelain, and smalti create a richly faceted, glittering texture across flattened, decorative shapes. The fragmented surface produces a vibrant, almost molten energy fitting the dance implied by the title.
