About this work
Multiple railway tracks and switch points converge toward a hazy vanishing point, crossed by an overhead catenary gantry and a web of power lines strung between wooden poles. Two dark freight cars stand on distant sidings, and a small signal box interrupts the foreground rails, viewed from a slightly elevated, oblique vantage point.
The scene is built almost entirely in black linework and spray over a flat, green ground, with the sky reduced to a pale grey haze. Rails are picked out in white against the dark ballast, giving the image a stark, poster-like graphic quality. The absence of any figures and the cold, synthetic color scheme lend the yard a deserted, faintly ominous atmosphere.
