About this work
A low banded building with rusticated masonry, round-topped arched brickwork, barred gate and wrought-iron fence occupies the frame, its checkpoint barrier arm raised beside striped bollards on an empty forecourt; a taller glazed structure with a sawtooth roof rises behind it.
Flat unmodulated turquoise defines the walls while black outlines pick out every architectural detail, and the whole scene sits under a hot pink-orange sky rendered in loose broad strokes, an unnatural contrast that flattens the architecture into bold poster-like shapes. Cool grey shadows across the empty pavement give the industrial gate a stark, vibrant, graphic presence.
