About this work
A bald man's head fills the sheet, tilted slightly back with eyes wide and glaring and mouth open wide in a shout that bares his teeth. Deep furrows cross his brow, and his plain t-shirt and shoulders are indicated with a few loose lines beneath the tightly rendered face.
Rendered entirely in warm, reddish-brown sanguine chalk, the drawing is built through dense parallel and cross-hatching that darkens the eye sockets and open mouth, while the untouched paper stands for the brightest highlights on the scalp and cheekbones. The raw immediacy of the mark-making and the confrontational pose give the sheet an intense, charged energy.
