About this work
A cobbled lane, dappled with sunlight filtering through overhanging trees, leads past low ochre buildings and a stone wall toward an arched gateway. Beyond it rises the blue ribbed dome of a cathedral. Women in patterned shawls stroll the path while a seated figure rests against the wall in the shade.
Warm ochre and rose tones dominate the walls and pavement, set against a pale blue sky and the cathedral's turquoise dome. Sunlight breaks across the cobblestones in loose, broken patches, painted with quick strokes that leave the foliage flickering overhead. The overall effect is a bright, unhurried summer scene full of everyday movement.
