About this work
Clustered terracotta roofs and chimneys of a hilltop village fill the foreground, seen from an elevated viewpoint looking outward. Beyond them a green valley opens out, crossed by a band of turquoise water, with rows of cypress-like trees along the near slope. Layered blue-grey mountain ridges recede toward the horizon under a sky scattered with soft clouds.
Warm orange and ochre roof tiles are built with thick, textured strokes, while the distant valley and mountains are rendered in softer, hazier greens and blues that flatten with distance. Loose, confident brushwork and visible canvas texture throughout give the paint a tactile, sunlit quality. The broad, airy view and warm light create a calm, expansive mood.
