About this work
Seen from above, overlapping rooftops, chimneys, and a rooftop weathervane crowd the frame, with a steep dark gable rising at the right and a hazy line of distant buildings along the horizon. No sky feature stands out beyond a pale, featureless expanse above the roofline, keeping the focus entirely on the geometry of the roofs themselves.
The palette is built from mustard yellow, ochre, and umber, applied with a heavily textured, palette-knife surface that flattens the rooftops into blocky planes. Sharp outlines in dark brown separate each roof and chimney, giving the composition a graphic, almost mosaic-like structure. The muted, sunless light and dense arrangement of forms create a subdued, contemplative mood.
