About this work

A dancer is seen from behind, dark hair pinned up, both arms extended outward as a deep blue drape crosses them. She wears a black bodice over a pale, tiered tutu. The pose is open and momentary, set against a bare, atmospheric ground with no other details defined.

The palette is built almost entirely from cool blue-grays, with the tutu in broken white strokes and the blue drape as the only saturated color. Brushwork is loose, dissolving the figure's edges into the misty background so light falls softly across the shoulders and raised hand, producing a quiet, dreamlike impression.
