About this work
Rolling, sun-dried hills are cut by shallow ravines and gullies, their bare slopes streaked with ochre, rust and pale clay. A wooden power pole with strung wires stands at the crest of the middle rise, and a small dark bird glides just above it. A dirt track winds through the foreground toward the horizon, where a second, more distant pole is barely visible in the haze.
The palette is almost monochrome, built from warm sandy tans and dusty pinks that suggest the low light of early morning or late day. Brushwork is smooth and blended in the sky and distant haze, growing looser and more textured in the eroded foreground earth. The wide, empty composition and soft light give the scene a hushed stillness.
