About this work
A woody stem rises vertically through the frame, bearing several rounded, fuzzy catkins arranged in pairs along its length. The soft grey buds catch a warm, diffused light against a loosely brushed, mottled background with no other objects present.
Warm greys, taupe and cream dominate, with faint pink undertones on a few of the buds, applied in thick, textured strokes that mimic the catkins' velvety surface. Soft, even light without hard shadows gives the close study a tender, quiet intimacy.
