About this work

A single persimmon fills most of the canvas, shown close-up with its calyx removed to expose a pale, papery scar at the top of the fruit. Faint vertical creases run down its rounded orange body, and a dark stem or leaf trails off at the lower right against an otherwise bare, softly lit background.

The fruit's warm orange and rust tones are built up over a chalky cream ground, with the surface left visibly textured and lightly cracked in places. Light falls evenly from the front, keeping shadows soft and diffuse. The close, simplified framing and restrained palette give the study a calm, meditative stillness centered entirely on the single object.
