About this work
Bare trees lean over a broad, snow-covered path that recedes toward a golden church dome glimpsed through the branches. Low winter sun rakes across the avenue from the left, laying long violet-blue shadows of the trunks and branches over the pale snow, while a low fence and thinner saplings line the right edge of the path.
The palette combines cool whites and blues with warm ochre light on the bark and distant buildings, touches of gold marking the church roof. Rendered in soft, textured pastel strokes, the bare branches stand out against a pale, hazy sky. The interplay of long shadows and low warm light gives the scene a hushed stillness.
