About this work
Dark, spiky silhouettes of cranes and scaffolding cluster along the bottom edge, their crisscrossing struts rendered as black linework. Above them, a diagonal red-and-white mass sweeps from lower left to upper right across a grey ground. Within this pale zone floats a small, loosely drawn outline of a jointed, machine-like form filled with red, hovering apart from the structures below.
The composition is built on a strong diagonal split between the murky blue-grey field and the fiery red-white passage, with black ironwork silhouettes anchoring the lower corners. Linework is scratchy where it describes the cranes, contrasting with the smoother printed gradient of the sky. The small red figure reads like a caught spark rising from the machinery, giving the print a tense, watchful mood.
