About this work
Two small sailing boats with slender masts and rigging sit moored close to a low shoreline, their hulls reduced to soft dark smudges reflected in calm water. A wide pale sky washed in pink and lilac fills most of the composition, meeting a barely visible horizon line flecked with white.
Thin washes of cream, blush pink and violet are laid over the canvas with a dry, translucent touch, leaving the weave visible beneath the paint. Masts and rigging are sketched with a few fine dark lines against the pale ground, giving the small étude a quiet, airy, dreamlike stillness.
