About this work
A hooded crow, its grey body and black head, wings, and tail rendered in careful detail, perches sideways on a decorative wrought-iron railing along an embankment. Behind it, a row of pastel pink, yellow, and ochre buildings recedes along a canal or street, blurred by haze.
The bird is painted with crisp, detailed feathers against a softly diffused, atmospheric cityscape rendered in loose, hazy strokes of blue-grey and pink. Cool mist and muted color give the scene a quiet, contemplative stillness typical of a foggy Petersburg morning.
