About this work
A leafless tree wrapped in strings of small golden lights stands in front of a row of simplified, box-like buildings rendered as flat planes of grey and mauve. Green shuttered doorways and a scalloped light-strung awning punctuate the facades, while a wide, blank sky of pale grey and pink fills the upper half of the canvas.
The palette stays muted and cool, broken only by the warm gold of the lights and small patches of dark green. Forms are simplified into flat geometric blocks with a dry, chalky surface, giving the scene a still, quiet feel of an empty street at dawn.
