About this work
A weathered wooden fishing boat, pulled up on muddy ground, fills most of the canvas with its scarred bow pointed toward the viewer; the paint has flaked away in long bands revealing bare wood and rust stains. Smaller boats with turquoise and dark hulls sit moored behind it beside a wooden shed and a stretch of still water, under a heavy, clouded sky.
Muted whites, browns, and streaks of faded red describe the hull's decay, painted with dry, textured strokes that mimic peeling wood grain. The overcast light is soft and diffuse, and the abandoned, salvage-yard atmosphere gives the picture a quiet, weathered melancholy.
