About this work
A snowy street lined with bare, dark trees recedes toward a small square where a tiny figure stands beneath the glow of two ornate lampposts. To the right a building's warmly lit windows glow through the murk, while snow falls steadily across the whole scene, dusting the ground and tree branches.
Deep plum-browns and blacks dominate the shadowed trees and sky, pierced by warm halos of lamplight rendered in soft, glowing white and gold. The heavy, textured dark against the luminous snow creates a hushed, mysterious night mood.
