About this work

A dark teal-green jacket hangs by itself over the back of a small wooden stool, set against a large expanse of bare, mottled grey-white wall. To the right, a round mirror or window holds a faint, shadowy reflection of a face. A pale sheet of paper or canvas leans against the wall at the far left, otherwise the room is empty.

The composition is spare, dominated by soft greys and off-whites scumbled thickly across the canvas, against which the saturated teal jacket reads as a single, deliberate note of color. Light is diffuse and even, with no strong shadows to disturb the stillness. The near-empty room and solitary garment create a hushed, introspective calm suited to quiet reflection.
