About this work

A pale, reclining body stretches diagonally across the lower half of the canvas, its curves reduced to broad, rounded slabs of cream and rose. Above and around it, patches of yellow-green and olive suggest surrounding grass or foliage, while a cluster of dark red and black marks at the upper right reads as shadow or scattered blossoms.

Applied with a loaded brush or palette knife, the paint sits in thick, ridged strokes that fuse figure and setting into a single tactile surface. Acid greens, warm creams and touches of violet and yellow create a hot, saturated palette pushed well beyond naturalism. The dense, energetic handling gives the reclining pose a raw, physical immediacy.
