About this work
A tall bunch of lilac, pale violet and white florets among heart-shaped green leaves, fills a rounded amber glass jug standing on a rough wooden table. The flowers spread wide and loosely, catching light unevenly, while dappled shadows fall across the sun-bleached planks in front of a dense, near-black green backdrop.
Worked in soft pastel, the palette moves from violet-grey blooms to warm ochre highlights on the jug and honeyed wood, strokes left visibly hatched rather than smoothly blended. Light falls from the upper right, picking out individual clusters against the shadowed greenery, giving the still life a sunlit, garden-fresh feel.
