Clustered trees - a dark conical pine, slender cypresses and a tree in red autumn foliage - rise above a tight huddle of small white cottages, gabled sheds and garden walls. Patchwork paving and tiled borders in blue, ochre and terracotta checker the courtyard floor, laid out almost like a toy village seen from a slight height.
