About this work
Three camels, led by a herder on foot, move in single file across a vast, empty desert flat, their forms tiny against the scale of the landscape. Rolling dark foothills rise behind them, stepping up to a hazy, layered mountain range that closes the horizon under a pale sky.
The composition works in wide horizontal bands of color: rust and ochre earth in the foreground, cooler violet-blue slopes further back, and a soft grey-blue sky above. Thick, textured brushstrokes build the foreground ground, while the mountains are laid in with softer, hazier strokes that suggest distance and heat, giving the scene a quiet, sunbaked stillness.
