About this work

A large silver teapot with a curved spout and dark handle dominates the center of the composition, its rounded body beaded with condensation. In front of it on a wooden ledge sit whole purple figs and several halved ones, their pink-red flesh and seeds exposed, alongside a few softer brown figs at the edges.

Rendered in tight, photographic detail, the painting sets the cool metallic sheen of the teapot against the deep purples and reds of the fruit on a warm neutral ground. Soft, even light models every reflective highlight and water droplet, while the varnished wood grain in the foreground gives the still life a quiet, controlled realism.
