About this work
A warm ochre-brown ground fills most of the sheet, scattered with rows of small stenciled numerals and letters in the upper portion. At lower left a paler, fibrous collaged strip interrupts the surface, and a darker horizontal band anchors the bottom edge, while fine cracks and scratches run throughout.
Built up in silver pencil and mixed media, the surface has a dry, rubbed quality with soft tonal gradations from pale cream to deep umber. The stenciled marks read as archival or industrial notation rather than a picture, giving the sheet a quiet, mysterious, document-like presence.
