About this work
A tall cream jug of white and purple lilac stands at the center of a table still life, flanked by a footed bowl of apples and a lemon, a blue enamel teapot and a loose green apple on a blue patterned cloth. Behind the arrangement, a large dark mirror reflects the bouquet and a hint of a window and picture frame, doubling the flowers within the composition.
Cool violet and green tones fill the flowers against the warm frame of the mirror and pale cloth, lit softly from the reflected window behind. Brushwork is loose and richly loaded in the blossoms, firmer in the fruit and vessels. The mirror adds depth and a layered, luminous quality to the still life.
